A Preliminary Analysis of the Economic Impact of Future Submarines Based on the Collins Program, Macroeconomics for Defence Materiel Organisation, 5 August 2014

Debate about whether new submarines for Australia’s defence capability should be built in Australia has captured the public interest. This includes discussion in regard to economic impacts, in particular potential job creation benefits. This report, prepared by Macroeconomics for the Defence Materiel Organisation, explores the potential future economic impacts of a submarine build in Australia, on the basis of what might occur if new submarines are constructed in a similar manner to the Collins class vessels operated by the Royal Australian Navy.
