Canadian funds act as Australia dithers on power, Stephen Anthony in The Australian, 26 August 2021

In an insightful article in The Australian, respected business columnist Robert Gottliebsen alerts that Canadian intuitions are set to take advantage of Australia’s slowness in realising that the nation is going to require massive investment in power grids to cater for the increase in electrification led by motor transport and greater use of the internet.

The article references a new Energy Policy Institute of Australia report from Macroeconomics Advisory’s Stephen Anthony. In the report, released this week, Stephen argues that without a serious and properly analysed national policy based on technical realities as well as market needs, Australian institutional investors will be reluctant to support much-needed infrastructural investment. A framework for investors is required with settled goals and guidelines about technological directions, demand profiles, investment requirements, rate of return targets, etc.
